A 26-year-old woman was found to have an enlarged heart via X-ray during a health check-up last year and sought medical attention at the cardiology outpatient clinic of Yuan Rung Hospital, Yuan Rung Healthcare System, under Dr. Chen Yu-feng. It was found that her left ventricular ejection fraction was only 39%, which meets the definition of heart failure. After investigation, it was discovered that the woman had a family history of thyroid disease. After taking medication regularly for nearly 10 months, she has now fully recovered. Director Chen pointed out that in addition to medication, heart failure patients can also improve their condition through EECP (Enhanced External Counterpulsation, a non-invasive cardiovascular assistive therapy, also known as external counterpulsation therapy).
