Introduction to Occupational Therapy (Occupational Therapy)
Definition by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA): Occupational therapy is the use of "purposeful activities" to treat or assist people with physical, psychological, developmental, or social functional impairments, enabling them to achieve maximum independence in life.
Occupational therapy divides the activities people engage in daily into three categories: activities of daily living, work activities, and play and leisure activities. We conduct assessments through the analysis and combination of activities, the graded adjustment of activities, and the execution of activities, gradually enabling individuals to promote recovery or maintain their personal abilities.
Services include:
Occupational therapy for sensorimotor dysfunction
Occupational therapy for cognitive, psychological, and social functional impairments
Sensory integration therapy
Design, fabrication, usage training, and guidance of splints and functional assistive devices
Phase II assessment for disability evaluation
